LIA
Since 1995, Austrian artist LIA has been engaged in a continuous exploration of software art. Her cross-functional practice spans video, performance, software, installations, sculpture, projections, and digital applications, grounded in deep-rooted and evolving conversations with the machine.
LIA’s primary working material is code. For her, the creative process is a dialogue: she translates an idea or observation into a formal written structure, which in turn generates the final work. This process is repeated and refined until the machine’s interpretation aligns with LIA’s artistic vision. At that point, the generative framework is complete, allowing the artwork to develop and take form.
LIA’s work combines the traditions of drawing and painting with the unique aesthetics of digital algorithms. Characterized by a minimalist quality, her art is born from a process of translating fundamental principles of interaction and relation into abstract compositions of form, movement, and color. The intent is to allow the viewer to connect with these core experiences on a subconscious level.
Based in Vienna, LIA’s influential practice continues to be shown and commissioned internationally.
