VS-process is a generative audiovisual collaboration between LIA and bizz circuits, realized with support from the Bundeskanzleramt:Kunst (Austrian Federal Chancellery).
The work was constructed through a recursive exchange of data. Visual and acoustic elements coded by LIA served as raw material, which was processed by bizz circuits on the audio level, then returned to LIA for further visual development. This back-and-forth workflow moved beyond simple visualization; the final output illustrates the friction and reordering of information inherent in this exchange.
The work is distributed by Sixpackfilm and has been screened at Ars Electronica, the Centre Pompidou, and the European Media Art Festival (EMAF).
VS-process (2005), generative audiovisual work. Curated excerpt.
Selected generative outputs.
The Concept
The exchange of computer files and processing of the information they contain occupies the foreground, and the final product illustrates this creative process. […] At the same time the initial images resemble the soundtrack of a film strip or a computer program’s visual translation of sound waves. At first geometric shapes move up and down the picture, and after a while they begin to overlap more and more. […] What takes place on the sound level is nearly the reverse: At first several layers of sound are superimposed, and after a while individual layers become identifiable before condensing at the conclusion.
