flow is a generative audiovisual collaboration between LIA and the Portuguese sound artist Vitor Joaquim.
The visual system is constructed from delicate graphic figures that multiply thousands of times without interruption. Through this intense layering, the initially sparse elements evolve into dense, ornamental structures that resemble microbiological particles or organic growth. The movement on screen is not created by the elements themselves, which remain motionless, but by their rapid, algorithmic proliferation.
The work is distributed by Sixpackfilm and has been screened at major international festivals including the San Francisco International Film Festival, the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, and Ars Electronica. In 2024, it was selected for the Best Austrian Animation Festival Gala in Vienna.

Selected generative outputs.
The Concept
More than in her earlier videos, in flow LIA works with nearly ornamental forms that run riot over the screen to the sound created by Vitor Joaquim. […] The resulting impression of rapid movement comes not from the elements themselves, which are in fact motionless, but from the thousandfold multiplication they experience without interruption.
“Becoming and Disappearing”: LIA’s images are in perfect harmony with Joaquim’s music. […] Proliferating incessantly, the individual graphics pile up in layers, taking on the appearance of sculptural figures that dissolve quickly in the never-ending flow of new forms.
