Cathedrals is a generative series that grew directly out of the software LIA created for her large-scale installation at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna.
Where the site-specific installation was expansive and asymmetrical, this series takes a more focused, contemplative approach. The algorithm uses bilateral symmetry to evoke a sense of the spiritual – of digital angels, prayers, and sacred objects. Each piece is a unique artifact of surreal complexity, a blend of the concrete and the abstract, designed as a point of focus for quiet admiration.
A curated selection of works from this series formed a central part of LIA’s 2021 solo exhibition, Coding Life, at Kalyon Kültür in Istanbul. One piece was featured as a large-scale physical print, while three others were presented on screens, bridging the gap between the digital and physical art worlds.
The full collection was also released as a series of unique NFTs on the Foundation platform.
