In 2008, LIA was commissioned by Maxalot to create a site-specific artwork for the TodaysArt Festival in The Hague. The piece was projected onto the facade of the VROM Building (the Dutch Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment).
The artwork, titled 18*5, takes its name from the grid of the projection surface. These specific numbers – 18 and 5 – were implemented directly into the generative code, determining the composition through the arrangement and repetition of elements within the image.
To achieve the necessary brightness and resolution for the public display, the installation utilized two hardware large-format projectors with 7000-watt Xenon lamps and 155mm slides. This analog-digital hybrid approach transformed the government building into a monumental public art installation.
